NEWS RELEASE: Implementation begins on Grassy Mountain Shared Stewardship Project (Full release found here: https://tinyurl.com/4n2xymsn)

A three-year fire break project is set to begin above the Forest Lakes neighborhood on Grassy Mountain, north of Bayfield, CO. This 638 acre project will take place on #SanJuanNF, Bureau of Land Management - Colorado, and Colorado State Land Board lands. The fire break is situated above roughly 1,200 homes. It is designed to reduce wildfire hazard and risk to the surrounding communities, while decreasing potential harm to the watershed and protecting recreational opportunities.

Beginning in April, residents of Forest Lakes can expect to see heavy equipment and logging trucks working above the subdivision and traveling pre-identified corridors (see map).

A virtual question and answer session will be held on Tuesday, March 25 at 6p.m. For meeting details, regular updates, and additional information on the project, please visit our project website: www.nationalforests.org/regional-programs/rocky-mountain-region/grassy-mountain-stewardship-project

This project is made possible in partnership with Colorado State Forest Service, National Forest Foundation and Forest Lakes Metro District.
